The Club has always been instrumental in promoting the working side of our wonderful breed and prides itself on its strong, well supported working section. As a general rule, we hold two field trials in the autumn/winter months (a field trial uses game birds) and two working tests during the ‘closed’ shooting season (which are on canvas dummies). In addition, there is a Show Gundog Working Certificate test (for those dogs that have qualified for Crufts) in December/January.
On the first Saturday in April, we hold a training day in Suffolk for all levels of ability – beginners through to advanced and during August, subject to growing conditions, there is a training day in beet. Throughout the summer there are monthly training evenings on the 2nd Monday of the month in Stalham, Norfolk. An annual ‘Interclub’ competition is held with the 12 other UK Golden Retriever clubs during June, which we are proud to support and have had good results.
If you are new to working your Golden Retriever, or want to find out more, offers of help are always appreciated at our events and are a great way to learn what goes on, as well as watch some fabulous dogs work! For the next Working Event, check our Events page.
